How to hide your hard disk partition from any other computer

This is actually a rather simple undertaking. The first thing to do is go to the Control Panel. To do this you start by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In Category view you would click Network and Internet Connections, then Network Connections. In classic view simply double-click Network Connections. Right click on the connection you want to set this for (Local or Wireless). Select Properties. Make sure the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks boxes are unchecked. Click OK. Now file sharing has been disabled.

Now we can take this a step further. Go to Start > My Computer. Right Click on drive (C:). Select Properties. Select the Security Tab. Click on Users. On the bottom window pane select the box under Deny and Full Control. Click Apply then OK. Now only Administrator account have access to the Hard disk drive.

I would also definitely recommend setting a password for you Administrator account. To do this got to Start > Control Panel. From Category View, select User Accounts, then select Change an Account. From Classic View simply double-click User Accounts. Once there the first thing you should do is to disable the Guest account. Look at the Icon. It will tell you weather or not the Guest account is on. To turn it off, simply select the Guest account, then click Turn off the guest account. Viola, the guest account is now disabled. Then select your Administrator account. Click the Create a Password link. You will have to type the password in twice. Then you can create a password hint if you want. This is not necessary. This hint will be able to be viewed on the Login page.

Now you have done some basic security settings. Of course these steps can and should be augmented by a reputable third-party firewall.

Now if you would like to make your account more secure, you can change the way you login. If you are still in the User Accounts area click Home on the top bar. Otherwise navigate back to the User Accounts page. Select the Change the way users log on or off. De-select the Use Welcome Screen option. Click Apply Option. Now you will have to type in your user name and password to log into your computer.
